GLOSSARY

Connection Mode

The nervous system state where safety is perceived. Empathy is fully available, flexibility is high, and repair is possible.

Understanding Connection Mode

Connection mode is what happens when the nervous system perceives safety. Not forced calm or performed wellness — real safety that the body believes, not just the mind.

In this state: - Empathy is fully online - We can hold complexity and nuance - We can hear difficult feedback without collapsing - Repair and accountability are possible - We can stay present with another person's pain

This isn't about being "good" or "evolved." It's a nervous system state. Anyone can be here when conditions allow. The question is: how easily can we return here when we leave?

Examples

Being able to hear "you hurt me" without immediately defending.

Staying curious about someone else's experience even when it's uncomfortable.

Feeling safe enough to be honest about mistakes.
